Below is a selection of some of the most common questions clients may ask. If you haven't had all your questions answered elsewhere on the site, they should be answered here. If not, feel free to contact us and ask away!

We'll always do our best to answer any questions clearly and honestly. Unlike other agencies, there's no smoke and mirrors with CWL Media; we lay everything out in the open for you so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not we're the right people for the job.

  • We make graphic and logo design simple. Some design firms like to make things more complicated than they need to be, but we don't like complicated, and we're sure you don't either, so that's why we have two flat rates for graphic design:

    For a logo it'll cost £200
    For any other graphic it'll cost £75

    We do have a few limitations on what exactly "any other graphic" means, but for an idea of what you can and can't have for £75 please see our About: Graphic Design pages.

  • Most agencies will tell you there's no way anyone can set a fixed price for websites for the simple reason that each project is different. Because each project is unique, each client will need to ask for their own price quote. However, we do know that most other agencies charge roughly £3500+ just for a simple 5 page website - and that's without even considering smartphones and tablets!

    Thankfully, we're not most other agencies! We don't see why it has to cost so much for so little in return - especially in this economic climate! We don't like that many in the 'entry-level' market can't afford to have their own professionally designed website. And because of that, we've set our base rate at £750 for any simple website, with however many pages you want (within reason). Each of these "base rate" sites also comes with the ability to edit/update content on your existing pages, and create new pages (if you want it).

    If you need the ability to perform a mass-update by yourself (ie without re-hiring us to do it for you), or if you have a more complex order and/or need additional features, we will need to increase the price. An example of a "complex" order would be if you wanted to include your own e-commerce store; this takes a lot of time and effort to implement, and requires a more advanced version of our Kontent Katalyst system, and so the price needs to increase accordingly.

    We essentially charge four flat-rate prices. For a simple website which doesn't require advanced analytics and only requires the ability to perform simple content change/updates, it's £750. For a simple site with additional features, eg: the use of modules for news or blogging, it's £1000. For a slightly more advanced site with a need to use multiple modules, it's £1500. For a much more advanced and complex website, with features such as e-commerce capabilities and advanced content management capabilities, it's £2000.

    These incremental increases are due to the increasingly complex nature of building each of these types of website. We do, however, try to never charge over £2000 for website design.

    We also offer website administration on a pre-agreed, hourly basis. So if you don't have the time to keep your site up to date, you can hire us to do it for you. We do charge by the hour for this though, (£25/hour - less if your a non-profit or charity) so we do recommend the DIY approach, but if you need us, we can agree on a weekly or monthly amount of time you need us for, and if you give us the content, we'll do the rest! We could even write content for you, and are well-versed in doing so, for an increased hourly fee of £50/hour.

    So what's the lowest price package we offer? Let's break it down:

    · 1 logo design (optional): £100 (half-price if bought with a website)
    · 1 website, with as many pages as you like (within reason): £750
    · 1 month hosting on the Basics package: £8.50
    Total: £858.50 (£758.50 without a logo design)

    All this for £858.50? And only £8.50 a month thereafter for as long as you want to host the site? That's around a third of what some other firms charge for a 5-page website, and just over a quarter of what some larger firms charge! It's also a very competitive monthly fee for hosting and management solutions.

    And with a turnaround time of eight weeks or less?
    Can't say fairer than that!

  • Social media training is a new service we're offering, and while many people are already fairly familiar with social media, they might not necessarily know how to use it effectively from a marketing standpoint.

    Some people are completely new to the social networking game, and this is the main reason why we offer this service. It can be quite daunting at first, but if using a social media management platform like Sendible, the whole process can become a lot easier.

    In addition to this, we can take a wider look at your brand in general and offer advice and insight into how to make the most out of your brand, including new concepts, expansion opportunities and more.

    Our training and brand assessment sessions are on a one-to-one basis and charged hourly. Our hourly rate is £50 and we expect most of our clients will feel able to tackle the social media world and better utilise their brand after around 2 hours. However, some clients may need a little longer. We can also provide free information packs to clients who require social media training. For charities and non-profits we charge only £25 per hour.

  • We believe web hosting shouldn't cost an arm and a leg, and we believe in keeping things relatively simple. Sometimes, with all the various choices out there for hosting, it can get a little confusing; gigabyte this, terrabyte that, bandwidth caps and multi-cores...Too much jargon?

    You just want your site to be up there, ready to be seen by your visitors, right? Well, we hear you! So we've made it as simple as we can. We have four hosting packages, and each of these tie into what kind of features you may need for your site:

    Basics:
    If you just need a website and nothing more, choose the "Basics" package. This is priced at just £8.50 a month.

    Plus:
    If you need e-mail addresses and mailboxes to communicate with your users, choose the "Plus" package. This is priced at just £15 a month, and is our most popular package.

    Marketing:
    If you need marketing solutions and databases or blog and forum features, choose the "Marketing" package. This is priced at £25 a month.

    Commerce:
    If you need an e-commerce store, business reporting tools, event/calendar functionality and event booking capabilities, choose the "Commerce" package. This is priced at £50 a month. Need more users to be able to administrate/moderate your site? The "Commerce" package also comes with 5-user and 10-user options, priced at £70 and £90 a month respectively. These also include increased storage and e-mail account capacities.

    Each of our hosting packages can be scaled up or down at any time to suit your needs, so if you just need e-mail capabilities for now but want to open an online store later on, choose "Plus" and upgrade to "Commerce" later. Likewise, if you choose "Marketing" but find you have no need for marketing solutions, you can downgrade to "Plus" or "Basics".

    Need a bit more storage space? Need more bandwidth for more visitors? Ask about our "added extras" options to beef up your selected package.

    All our hosting packages come with the ability to use our content management system, the "
    Kontent Katalyst". The features and abilities available to you from within the Kontent Katalyst system vary dependent on the hosting package you choose.

    So in short, you've got four options, you can switch between them at any time and you can add to them if need be.

    Depending on where you are in the world, we have a choice of data centres for you to use. We advise you to choose the one nearest you for optimum performance and speed. The locations are: North America, Europe and Asia/Pacific.

  • Kontent Katalyst is our content management system (or CMS for short), and in brief, it does exactly that - It helps you to manage your content.

    Kontent Katalyst, however, does more than that; it's an all-in-one online business management platform which is rich in business and content management tools. Depending on the hosting package you choose, once you log in to Kontent Katalyst you will be greeted with your dashboard which contains interfaces for features including (but not limited to):

    · Contacts and databases
    · Web form submissions
    · Online orders
    · Products
    · Catalogues
    · Web pages
    · E-mail marketing campaigns
    · Blogs
    · Forums
    · APIs for integration of HTML-based third party systems

    With Kontent Katalyst, you'll never be paying for features you're not going to use, and you'll never be wishing you had more features because we leave that entirely in your control with our scalable hosting plans.

    Remember, most agencies will charge you an excess fee in the hundreds for CMS access and will then build you a customised system based off their own framework - this isn't necessary! We believe our system caters to almost all needs and the cost is baked right into our tailored hosting package options, so you'll always have the right amount of features for your site, and won't be paying through the nose for it.

  • Added extras are additional features which can be added on top of your hosting package. For example, if you've chosen the "Plus" package but you need more than 10 e-mail accounts, add another user account to the Kontent Katalyst system and you can have 10 more e-mail addresses! Adding another user account (or more) is also particularly useful If you need more users to be able to access Kontent Katalyst and manage your site/business. You can even add more disk space if you need to.

    These extras just offer that little bit of added freedom to your chosen hosting plan. They're particularly useful if you don't quite need to scale up to the next package but could do with a little bit more to play with.

    So what extras are available and how much do they cost? Well, here's what's on offer:

    · Additional one User £5/month (includes 10 additional email addresses)
    · Additional five Users £20/month (includes 20 additional email addresses)
    · Extra Disk Space £10 per 1GB/year (charged annually)
    · Extra SMS £10 per 50 SMS/month (charged monthly)

  • The short answer is no, you don't have to use our hosting and CMS platform. The choice is entirely yours and we won't force you to choose one platform over another. We do, however, encourage you to stick with our Kontent Katalyst system.

    Why?

    While you're free to take the site files we create for you and use other solutions for hosting and management, what we create is designed for complete compatibility with the systems we use for hosting and management. We offer a complete solution which is seamless from production to publishing and beyond. You may find the experience is less seamless and more frustrating if using another system as certain elements may not be compatible. While we certainly don't intentionally create incompatibility issues, we also cannot stop them from happening.

    It's a similar situation to if you were attempting to read a book to someone who speaks a different language; they may understand the gist of the story, but will likely misinterpret certain words or will not understand whole phrases, and so their impression and recounting of the book might be different to yours.

    You may also find some management systems are more limiting than others in terms of what you are and aren't capable of doing, particularly without knowing how to write code. We're proud that our Kontent Katalyst system is feature rich and the majority of these features require little-to-no knowledge of how to write website code.

    We're telling you about this now, so that you can make an informed decision as to whether or not we're the right people for the job. We've tried to create an all-in-one 'entry-level' experience that is seamless, so that you don't have to encounter these types of issues. That may be fine for most of our clients, but some may want to use an entirely different set of tools for hosting and content management. All our clients are free to decide for themselves which platforms to use.

  • You don't have to buy your domains through 1&1, no, but we do recommend them for their reputation for the lowest prices of top-level domains, and this is why we've partnered with them to bring you the best domain prices available.   • No, you don't have to use Sendible. We simply recommend Sendible as the best affordable social media management tool available today. Sendible is relatively new to the social media management market, but in its' short lifespan it has already established itself as one of the most sought after business management tools today.

  • Of course you can! We actually create websites which recognise the device they're being viewed on!

    This means that if you view the website on your laptop, and then check it out on your smartphone, you'll see the same content, but in a layout that fits your screen size - so you don't have to keep pinching and zooming in to read the text!

    We offer the creation of optimised smartphone and tablet versions of your website as an extension of your website project (If you want it!) - We do charge for this though, as it essentially triples our workload during the design and build phases, but don't worry! You can get both a smartphone and a tablet edition of your site for just £250 each!

    This is our 'flat rate' price, but if you're including a lot less content on your optimised versions, we may be able to negotiate a lower fee! The logic behind this is that some people use the mobile editions of their sites as 'tasters' or 'teasers' promoting the use of the main desktop/laptop version to the visitor.

    The difference of an optimised smartphone or tablet version means that we create a template and layout (by hand) that's more suitable for a smaller screen, change the way certain content is displayed and potentially how site navigation works. For an example of what we mean, try visiting this website on your smartphone and tablet as well as your desktop/laptop computer.

    Mobile traffic currently makes up more than 17% of global Internet traffic, and in 2013 more people used mobile phones than PCs to get online. Purchases made on mobile devices amounted to around $38.8 billion in the U.S. in 2013, or about 16% of total online sales, and are expected to reach more than $53 billion this year. By 2017, U.S. mobile sales are forecast to reach $108.5 billion.

    So we know that the mobile web is becoming an increasingly valuable way to communicate with your customers/visitors and potentially generate on-the-go sales. This is why we now offer mobile optimised versions of your site as supplements.

    If creating a mobile optimised version of a website, we even make sure most devices will automatically detect that there's a mobile version of the site available so you should never see the desktop version of your site on a smartphone! Convenient!

  • Our prices are affordable because we don't believe in overcharging for projects that can be done on a much smaller budget than other agencies expect you to have. We don't expect an individual, start-up or small business to have a load of spare cash lying around, and neither should other agencies, but for some reason, most of the time, they do.

    We've got no problem with other agencies, and in fact we're sure some of them have more skill than us in designing websites and graphics. But we're not claiming to be the best of the best; we're simply claiming to be one of the first affordable agencies aiming our services at the 'entry-level' market.

    Our clients probably don't care about having an all-singing, all-dancing website with flash this, php that, and all kinds of other complexities, so we don't offer that. We offer simple, quality web and graphic design that's standards compliant, feature rich, and just works - This stuff doesn't need to cost the Earth.

    Sure, anyone can use free online web and graphic design tools to create "something", but is that "something" really going to do you any good? Or is it going to harm your image? If you don't know, it's probably best to avoid it! Who wants to use tools that make websites and graphics which look exactly the same as everyone else's anyway?

    Creativity is in our blood, so we can create something that looks good, separates you from the crowd, works the way it should, and that can perform well enough to help you and/or your business. We believe the web should be beautiful, but we also think it should be affordable.

  • We do indeed. Our main discount offerings are on our Domains & Hosting page. Know you're going to want to host your site with us for a full year? Pay for the year upfront and we'll give you a 10% discount. Pay for two and we'll give you a 15% discount.

    Don't forget to ask us at our initial meeting if we have any special offers on at the moment. You never know, we might just have a deal in store for you! But if you don't ask, you don't get!

  • There's no catch! We know what you're thinking though - too good to be true! It's true alright! We just want to give individuals, start-ups and small businesses a little break. It's hard enough establishing yourself and scraping by in this economy without having to shell out £3500+ for a basic website, or £500+ for a logo.

    We know what we're capable of, we know we can do it for less than that, and we know we can get by on these prices, so why hide that? We're a small business. We didn't get that break. So if we know we can help save others a bit of cash while giving them the website or graphics they want, then that's good enough for us!

 

 

We're currently working on our biggest project to date.

 

The School And Public Health Nurses Association (SAPHNA) have come back to us after being satisfied by our logo work and have asked us to build a new website for them.

 

Of course, we're more than happy to oblige. This site will feature news/blog modules, an events/calendar module, an e-commerce solution so visitors can sign-up for SAPHNA membership, search functionality and lots more.

 

We've not yet included all these features on a single website so we're excited to have the opportunity to do so now with SAPHNA's upcoming new website.

 

As it's a work-in-progress we're not providing a link for you to see it until the site is live, but we hope to have this available soon.
